Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - Float Pool
Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Specialty: Float Pool (multi-unit nursing)
Shift: 12-hour nights, weekends as scheduled
Schedule:
- Self-scheduling with 3 shifts per week
- Schedule made 4 weeks at a time
- Travelers submit ideal schedule but must be flexible to fill staffing gaps
- Every other weekend required
- Possible holiday rotation participation (split between groups)
- No call or standby requirement
Unit Details & Patient Ratios
Nurse will float among multiple units of varying acuity levels, including:
- CCU (10 beds) — Nurse:Patient ratio 1:2-3
- IMC (30 beds) — Nurse:Patient ratio 1:4-6
- Medical-Surgical Level 7 (27 beds) — Nurse:Patient ratio 1:5-6
- Medical-Surgical Level 8 (48 beds) — Nurse:Patient ratio 1:5-8
- Skilled Care (33 beds) — Nurse:Patient ratio 1:8-10
- Emergency Department (15 beds) — Ratios TBD
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) if working in CCU or ED
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years nursing experience required
- Prefer 1 year ICU experience or 1 year ED experience
- Ideal candidate is an ICU/Stepdown traveler comfortable floating to lower acuity units
- Must be flexible, adaptable, multi-functional, and have strong problem-solving skills
Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Clinical Skills & Responsibilities
- Comfortable managing nurse:patient ratios ranging from 1:2 up to 1:10
- Expected to titrate drips (e.g., Heparin) in ED and CCU
- Manage all critical drips in these units
- Able to troubleshoot respiratory equipment (vents, trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, Airvo)
- Administer breathing treatments as needed (RT assigned but nurses assist)
- Read and interpret telemetry strips; print strips, perform measurements, identify rhythms
- Typical nursing duties include ADLs, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, blood sugar monitoring
Support Staff & Team Structure
- Charge nurse present on each shift/unit; may take patient assignment as needed
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available with ratios approximately 1:7-15
- Respiratory therapists assigned to multiple units
- Telemetry/monitor techs available 24/7
Orientation
- 1 day unit-specific orientation plus 1 day with a preceptor
- Orientation provided for only one unit before floating independently
Additional Notes
- Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for candidate submissions
- Unexpired driver’s license required
- Licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
- Assignments communicated via text message within 2 hours prior to shift start
- Must clock in on assigned unit and complete daily timesheets
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable working across multiple units with varying acuity, who are adaptable and able to manage critical care drips and telemetry interpretation.

staff is not generally very friendly. Most staff are not helpful. The aides except for one or two are not helpful at all. They will argue with you when you ask for help.
