Common Patient Diagnoses

• Falls
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Bowel obstruction
• Atrial fibrillation (A-fib)
• Swingbed patients
• Various other med-surg conditions

Required Skills and Experience

• Confident in assessments, infusion pumps, medication administration
• Strong social skills, teamwork, and reliability
• Preferably some ER experience, but first-time travelers are welcome
• Experience in critical access facilities is appreciated

Clinical Responsibilities

• RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Insulin, Heparin, Levophed)
• Set rate drips include Amiodarone
• Nurses read and document cardiac monitor strips (Mindray monitors)
• Manage respiratory equipment and administer respiratory treatments (Hamilton C1 ventilator with CPAP and BiPAP, high-flow oxygen)
• No respiratory therapists on unit; nurses handle respiratory care

Staffing and Support

• Charge nurse present 24/7; does not take patient assignments but covers ER as well
• No house supervisor; nursing supervisor available Monday-Friday
• CNAs and PCTs assist with vital signs, charting, intake/output, and activities of daily living

Scheduling

• Shifts: 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am
• Block scheduling available depending on staffing needs
• Schedule posted 6 weeks in advance
• Weekend requirement: every 3rd weekend or more if desired
• Holiday shifts included in rotation if available
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Floating to ER may be required; flexibility appreciated

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation available, typically 3-6 shifts depending on staff availability

• Critical Access Hospital setting where teamwork and versatility are essential
• Close-knit, family-like atmosphere among staff and patients

Required Licensure

• Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for North Dakota

Years of Experience
