Respiratory Therapist Job Opportunity

Location: Martinsburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) verification required
• Will accept Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) if license held prior to July 1, 2022
• ACLS (AHA)
• BLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Experience Requirements

• Experience with NICU, Pediatrics, and Adult patients required
• Must be able to intubate independently for pediatric and adult patients
• Previous NICU experience preferred (Level II NICU)

Work Environment & Patient Population

• Patient types: Pediatrics, Adults, Neonates
• Units include ICU, ER coverage (at one location), MedSurg, and NICU
• Use of EMR system (EPIC)
• Ventilator brands used: Servo U, Hamilton G5, Transport Vent Hamilton T1, Phillips Respironics V60 (Bipap), AirVo & MaxTech high flow systems

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assess patients and plan treatments based on physician orders and evaluations
• Establish treatment goals and methods
• Set up equipment and administer treatments including:

  • Oxygen therapy
  • Humidity therapy
  • Airway management and resuscitation
  • Mechanical ventilation
  • Postural drainage and chest physiotherapy
  • Bipap, Cpap, nebulizers, inhalers
  • Arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Perform non-ER EKGs (varies by unit and shift)
• No Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) required

Schedule & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts, typically 3 shifts for orientation
• Weekend and holiday rotations every other weekend/holiday
• Call coverage includes Fri 7pm to Sun 7pm with scheduled shifts during that time
• Shift assignments balanced and approved by managers, with schedules typically released 4 weeks in advance

Additional Information

• Fully COVID vaccinated required (2 Moderna/Pfizer shots or 1 J&J shot) or approved exemption
• Must have a driver’s license address outside a 50-mile radius from the facility

Summary

This is a 13-week Respiratory Therapist contract position requiring RRT certification and experience across NICU, pediatric, and adult patient populations. The role involves independent intubation, ventilator management, and a variety of respiratory therapies in a fast-paced hospital environment. Candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption and be prepared for rotating weekend, holiday, and call shifts.
