Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU
Location: Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Department: ICU
- Number of Beds: 33 beds (average daily census: 16)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
- Nurse Aide Support: Available based on census; may assist with 1:1s or floor support
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Nasal cannula to vent; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage advanced vent settings
- Monitors/Telemetry: RNs read, interpret, and document cardiac strips; tele tech oversight present (monitor brand: GE)
- Floating Assignments: Typically to PCU or occasionally MedSurg with typical ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
Shift & Scheduling
- Shift Times: 06:30-18:30 and 18:30-06:30 (12-hour shifts)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers; block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
- Return to Orientation (RTO): Required within 7 days or less for 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved
- Call Back Policy: If called back to work, must arrive within 30 minutes
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required
- Experience: Minimum 3 years ICU RN experience (based on specialty and typical ICU requirements)
- Skills:
- Ability to titrate drips (cardiac drips, insulin, sedation)
- Pass a pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided)
- Additional Requirements:
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate is within 50 miles radius
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
Additional Notes
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any related facilities within the specified health system network
- Block scheduling is generally not approved except possibly for weekends only
- Duo scheduling or shared carpool scheduling is not accepted
