Registered Nurse – Stepdown Care Unit
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Stepdown Care Unit with 20 beds (8 private, remainder semi-private)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 3:1
- Patient types include those with COPD, CHF, diabetes, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, respiratory conditions, neuro/surgical/cardiac patients
- Common equipment and care: Bipap, Cpap, face mask ventilators, tracheostomies (including vented patients), chest tubes, G-tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, central lines
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
- BLS certification required; ACLS recommended
- ICU or Intermediate (Stepdown) nursing experience required
- Must have experience with trach and ventilator care
- Experience with nurse-to-patient ratios of 3:1 or 2:1 in ICU/Intermediate settings
- Ability to titrate drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose vasopressors
Job Details
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (night shift Fri/Sat, day shift Sat/Sun)
- Holiday requirement: Every other holiday rotation, with companion day off on major holidays
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating: Travel RNs float first; may float to ICU (if experienced), Stepdown, or General Medicine units
- Charge nurse and house supervisor present 24/7; charge nurse usually does not take patient assignments unless staffing is low
- Patient care technicians: 2 per shift, each caring for up to 10 patients if unit is full
- Telemetry: Phillips bedside monitors; tele techs interpret strips, RNs confirm readings
- Dress code: Any scrub color allowed
Orientation
- 1 day EPIC training
- 1 day unit orientation with educator
- 1 day floor orientation with RN
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
- Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required for all panels
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required; however, travel RNs must have ICU/Intermediate experience as noted above.
