ICU RN Travel Opportunity - Illinois (Freeport)

Job Details

• Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse (ICU RN)
• Location: Freeport, Illinois
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (0700-1930 or 1900-0730)
• Schedule: Census-based staffing, scheduled on shifts most in need
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation
• Floating: Required to float to MedSurg, Tele, and ER with a full patient load

Experience & Certifications

• Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2+ years ICU experience
• Prior Travel Experience: Highly preferred (not explicitly required, but strongly favored)
• Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Licensing: Illinois RN license required

Unit & Patient Information

• Unit: ICU with 8 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 (some patients lower acuity)
• Common Diagnoses: Sepsis, General Medical, General Surgical, Stroke (TNK), DKA, Pneumonia, Alcohol withdrawal, Post catheterization recovery (radial/femoral sites)
• Procedures: No CVOR or CRRT; balloon pump cases handled by core staff
• Code Blue: ICU RNs expected to run codes; Code Blue Command RN experience is a plus
• Tele Monitoring: RN responsible for cardiac strips; no monitor tech on unit; uses GE Carescape and Airstrip Technology

Skills & Responsibilities

• Drip Titration: Yes, including Levo, Neo, Propofol, Fentanyl, Precedex, Insulin, TNK, etc.
• Medication Mixing: Some mixing of medications required
• Charge Nurse Role: Charge nurse handles assignments; nursing supervisor is patient-free
• Support Staff: Care support, unit secretary, and CNA available when acuity warrants; CNA often cross-trained as unit secretary
• In-House Coverage: Hospitalist 24/7 (in-house during the day), respiratory therapy equipment available
• Orientation: Department-specific orientation of 2 shifts (12 hours each) with documentation resource

Additional Notes

• Scrub color: Any professional color
• Night shifts and weekend rotation required
• ER nurse may be used as backup
• Meditech experience is a plus
• Travelers with previous employment at this facility must disclose it for background checks
