ICU RN Travel Opportunity - California (Merced)

Job Details

• Specialty: ICU RN
• Location: Merced, California
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit: ICU (20 beds)
• Shift: 7 AM and 7 PM (12-hour shifts)
• Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends per 4 weeks
• Holiday Requirement: Every other major holiday
• Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 2 patients
• EMR System: Cerner
• Floating: Yes, to telemetry, medical-surgical floors; travelers are first to float
• Orientation: 2 shifts in ICU and 1 shift on a different unit

Required Certifications and Skills

• Active California RN License
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required
• CCRN and basic critical care course preferred
• Strong IV skills required
• Must be comfortable managing ventilators and ABCDE bundle
• Telemetry nurses must read and interpret their own strips

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience (highest required)
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Patient Population and Care

• Common diagnoses: Sepsis, DKA/hyperglycemia, parenteral nutrition (PN), COPD, PCI cardiac services (not STEMI center), CVA
• ICU patients recovering from surgery
• Familiarity with medications such as versed, propofol, norepinephrine
• Ventilator management with respiratory therapists available 24/7
• Hospitalist/internal medicine coverage 24/7; pulmonologists act as intensivists but not 24/7

• Charge nurse present each shift as a resource, does not take patients
• No nurse aides on the unit
• Pharmacy available 24/7
• Scrub color: Navy
• Must be ready to accept the assignment if offered due to high volume of declined offers
• Floating includes taking a full patient load (4-5 patients) on med-surg or telemetry floors

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with a fast-paced environment, floating between units, and managing complex critical care patients.
