Registered Nurse (Cardiac Stepdown) - Night Shift

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Stepdown unit with 32 beds total: 22 stepdown beds and 10 floor beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Stepdown: 1:3
  • Floor: 1:5 or 1:6
• Clinical associates support nursing staff, typically 2 overnight (1:16 ratio), budgeted for 4 (1:8 ratio)
• Respiratory equipment includes NC, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and trach to vent (dedicated RT on unit)
• Telemetry monitoring by Tele techs using Phillips monitors; RNs do not read their own strips

Patient Population & Care

• Common diagnoses: cardiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, medical-surgical patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips such as heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine

Schedule & Shifts

• Night shift: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
• Self-scheduling available with flexibility and block scheduling options
• Weekend nightshift requires working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights
• Weekend day/night schedule example: 3-4 Saturdays and Sundays, 2 Fridays, and 2 Mondays in a 4-week period
• Holiday coverage includes one evening and one day shift on major holidays (e.g., Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s)
• No call or standby requirements

Orientation & Dress Code

• Unit-specific orientation provided
• Weekend nightshift orientation: Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 7 PM to 7:30 AM
• Dress code: royal blue scrubs

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Current RN license required
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Cardiac experience preferred
• Must disclose any license hits at time of submission

Additional Information

• Charge nurse is typically dedicated to the unit but may take 1-3 patients depending on staffing
• Floating required; travelers are first to be pulled off the unit if needed, with rotational pull to floor assignment about 1 out of every 3 shifts
