ICU RN

Location: Kearney, Nebraska Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Days (12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week)

Required Qualifications

• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Valid driver's license required at submittal (used to verify distance from the facility)
• Must not work full time, part time, or PRN at any facility associated with the same health system or its affiliates
• Must live within a 50-mile radius of the facility

Unit Details

• Department: ICU RN
• Beds: 33 beds, average daily census of 16
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
• Common patient types: Trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
• Titratable drips: RNs titrate drips. Common drips include any cardiac drip, insulin, and sedation.
• Respiratory equipment: RNs manage nasal cannula to vent and troubleshoot equipment.
• Monitoring: RNs read, interpret, and document telemetry strips. Tele tech oversight of monitors is also provided.
• Support staff: Nurse aides assist based on census, sitting in 1:1 assignments or helping on the floor as needed. A healthcare support tech works 3 days per week (Monday through Friday, 0800-1630).

Floating

• Typically floats to PCU and occasionally to Med/Surg
• Same patient ratio as usual (1:4 or 1:5)

Schedule and Time Off

• Shift times: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling for core staff. Travelers are added to the schedule. Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.
• Blocked scheduling: Only available for weekends, and only on request. Duos requesting the same schedule or sharing a car will not be accepted.
• Weekends: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
• Holidays: At least 2 holidays within the contract period
• Time off requests (RTO): Up to 7 days per 13-week contract. Additional RTO will not be approved, including requests made after submission.
• On-call: If called back in from on-call, must arrive within 30 minutes.

Orientation

• 1 shift of unit-specific orientation
• Pass/fail exam given on Wednesdays during orientation. It is open book and covers skills learned. Resources are provided. A score of 90% is required to pass, and failure results in termination.

Policies

• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments. Refusal to remove them results in termination of the contract.
