Registered Nurse (RN) - Clinical Support Unit

Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)
Unit: Med Surg Float Pool (7 Med Surg units across Boise, Meridian, and Nampa)


Job Overview

  • Float pool nurses will only float within their specialty (Med Surg) and will not float outside their scope of practice.
  • Nurses may float to any facility in the region (Boise, Meridian, Nampa) and may also serve as 1:1 sitters in any area.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio on Med Surg units is typically 1:5.
  • Charge nurse is present on all units and takes an assignment.
  • Float pool leadership includes 7 assistant managers (one on call 24/7), plus educator and admin support.
  • No call or standby requirements.
  • Scheduling is block-based but not guaranteed; no self-scheduling.
  • Weekend work is every other weekend; holiday coverage as needed.
  • Assignments are communicated via an app about 1 hour before shift start.
  • Mid-shift floating to different units or facilities is common as needed.
  • Clean, professional dress code with no specific scrub color required.
  • Orientation includes a meet-and-greet on day 1 and 3 shifts of inpatient orientation.
  • Facilities have easy access, safe parking, and a positive work culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Med Surg specialty.
  • Previous travel nursing experience required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • RNs in Med Surg may be required to titrate insulin drips.
  • Highly preferred: experience with antepartum and mother-baby care for Labor & Delivery travelers (if applicable).

Additional Information

  • Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on units with ratios ranging from 1:8 to 1:10 depending on floor and day.
  • Respiratory therapy equipment specifics and RN responsibilities will be provided by unit managers.
  • No requirement for RNs to read their own telemetry strips; tele/monitor techs are present.
  • Facilities are approximately 20 minutes apart, centrally located with easy interstate access.
  • Meridian is a central location recommended for housing due to proximity to all sites.

This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs with prior travel experience seeking a regional float pool role with varied unit exposure and supportive leadership.

L&D Unit is Traveler friendly for CST roll as well as RN roll. Work load is very manageable. Great staff support.
