Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: 6 East – PCU, Oncology, and MedSurg
Number of Beds: 27-28
Patient Population: Adult patients with oncology and trauma diagnoses

Job Details

Patient care focus on Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Med Surg, and Oncology patients
Mixed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios:
- PCU: 1:4 (days)
- Med/Surg: 1:5 (days)
- Nights: 1:5-6 patients
Common patient diagnoses include oncology and trauma
Nurses may float to similar level care units (PCU and Med/Surg)
Orientation provided: 2 days
Self-scheduling with weekend requirement every other weekend
Nursing assistant support and charge nurse available
Additional unit support includes PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, and dietician
Scrubs color: Navy Blue

Required Certifications & Competencies

ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA certified
ONS/ONCC (Oncology Nursing Society/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation)
Chemotherapy certification required
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required
Competency in ventilator care and hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000) – training provided in real time
Experience with ICP monitoring
EMR system: EPIC
IV pumps: Alaris
Specialty equipment: Lyko lifts and other lift equipment available

Experience Requirements

Minimum 1 year of RN experience in PCU and oncology preferred
Oncology and PCU experience required; chemotherapy certification preferred
Experience as a charge nurse requires at least 1 year of experience
First-time travel nurses are accepted (prior travel experience not required)

Clinical Responsibilities

Titrate drips including insulin (occasionally) and cardizem
Administer chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, protonix
Provide hourly rounding to enhance patient experience
Care for diverse patient populations with respect and cultural sensitivity
Support patients through all stages of oncology care, including end-of-life

Additional Requirements & Policies

Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation (exam covers skills learned)
Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate location (must be outside a 50-mile radius of the facility)
Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities within the restricted radius
Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days or less from contract start; no extensions allowed
