Registered Nurse (RN) - Step Down

Location

Employment Type

  • Travel assignment

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Unit & Shift Details

  • Unit: Surgical Stepdown
  • Number of Beds: 29
  • Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients
  • Shift: Weekend nights, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Weekend hours as required, typically every other weekend
  • No call requirements
  • Guaranteed weekly hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current Driver's License
  • Experience with post-operative care
  • Experience with cardiac drips (gtt)
  • ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Experience with post-operative care, trauma, and high acuity medical patients
  • Familiarity with BiPAP, cardiac drips (gtt), and time management
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to float to other departments with equal or lower acuity as needed

Patient Population

  • Post-op patients recovering from high or lower acuity surgeries requiring cardiac drips or BiPAP
  • Trauma patients
  • High acuity medical patients

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Stand and walk most of the shift
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
  • Physical ability to push, pull, grip up to 50 lbs, pinch up to 15 lbs, kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids

Technology & Documentation

  • Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC

Professional Expectations

  • Utilize nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care
  • Maintain professional accountability and patient confidentiality
  • Coordinate care with ancillary departments
  • Adhere to nursing practice standards and facility mission, values, and service standards

Dress Code

  • Scrubs: Black
  • Attire must meet facility standards; no unauthorized logos or non-standard scrub colors

Additional Notes

  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted
  • Flexible scheduling options may be available but must be indicated on submission
  • Facility reserves the right to retract offers within 48 hours

This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity surgical stepdown unit with a focus on post-op and trauma care in a well-established hospital setting.
