Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
  • Float Requirement:
    • Primary float within skillset on the same campus
    • Possible float to nearby campuses (8 to 11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
    • Mid-shift float within campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
  • Weekend/Holiday Requirement:
    • Work three weekends every six weeks
    • Work every other holiday
  • Unit Info:
    • 41 beds
    • Nurse-to-patient ratio: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:6-7
    • Experienced leadership and CNA support
  • Additional Notes:
    • No call-ins allowed beyond 3 occurrences (may result in termination)
    • Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires
    • Scrubs must not display competing health system or agency logos
    • COVID-19 vaccine not currently required (subject to change)
    • Orientation week hours may vary; guaranteed hours apply after orientation

Patient Population & Skills

  • Med/Surg patients including post-surgical, UTI, sepsis, high fall risk, COPD, CHF
  • Skills required:
    • Remote telemetry monitoring
    • Chest tubes, NG/PEG tubes
    • Straight catheterization/Foley catheters
    • Ostomy care
    • Heparin drips
    • Blood and blood product administration
    • Tracheostomy care
    • PCA management
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills essential
  • Must be resilient, adaptable, and socially engaged

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment completed
  • Experience in a trauma level II setting
  • Recent experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Information

  • No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered
  • Weekly orientation sessions available in June and July prior to start date
  • Start dates available: June 29 or July 6
