Job Description

As a Clinical Nurse in the CSICU, you will provide safe, competent, and quality nursing care to critically ill cardiac patients, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans, prioritize patient needs, and educate patients and families on care and health promotion.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Deliver nursing care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
• Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
• Integrate assessment and intervention skills in care delivery.
• Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
• Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
• Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, transitions, health promotion, and disease prevention.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

• Role model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
• Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
• Address patient/family concerns and escalate as needed.
• Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

• Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
• Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
• Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.

• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.

• Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Qualifications

• Current New York State RN License required.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum 2 years RN experience.
• Minimum 2 years experience in Post Open Heart and Cardiac Care Unit.
• EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing considered with relevant experience or active BSN matriculation.
• Travel experience of 1 year preferred for travel positions (not required for per diem).

Work Schedule & Unit Information

• Unit Census: Approximately 26 beds.
• Staffing ratio: 1 nurse to 2-3 patients.
• Schedule: 12-hour shifts, including weekends.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks (approximately 3 months).
