Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN) - Contract

Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 13 weeks (89 days ≈ 13 weeks)

Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to pediatric patients based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Deliver patient- and family-centered care while promoting health, disease prevention, and effective communication.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care using Relationship Centered Care principles and nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate pediatric patient care needs using critical thinking.
  • Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, transitions, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
  • Role model patient experience best practices such as bedside shift reports, purposeful rounding, medication review, and discharge wrap-up.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships considering patient values, preferences, and cultural diversity.
  • Use evidence-based practices to improve patient care perceptions.
  • Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
  • Document nursing practice using institutional IT systems to support quality initiatives.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Current RN license in New York State.
  • Pediatric nursing experience required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
  • Relevant clinical competence in pediatric nursing practice; new graduates must have current knowledge of nursing process and application.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking, understanding).
  • Physical ability to care for acutely ill pediatric patients, including walking, standing, lifting, stooping, pushing, and responding quickly.
  • Manual dexterity for clinical procedures such as venipuncture, urinary catheterization, and CPR.
  • Proficient with electronic medical record documentation and basic data entry systems.
