Job Opportunity: Surg Tech 1 - Open Heart

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 20 weeks

Job Summary

Provides surgical technology support for direct and indirect care during operative/invasive procedures, specifically in open heart surgery. Assists the surgeon by preparing and managing surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring efficiency and accuracy throughout the procedure.

Key Responsibilities

Set up sterile field and scrub prior to induction
Ensure instruments, equipment, and sutures are appropriate, complete, and functional
Organize back table and mayo stand for cases
Use resources wisely, avoiding unnecessary opening of supplies
Adapt to surgeon’s technique and preferences, including running mayo independently
Scrub on simple to complex procedures across various specialties
Confidently assist during routine and emergency procedures
Anticipate and provide appropriate equipment and interventions during surgery
Communicate effectively with surgical team, including verbal and nonverbal cues
Participate in case closing activities such as dressing application and room turnover
Maintain patient privacy and promote a positive work environment
Participate in required call and assist others as needed
Contribute to quality improvement and efficient unit operations

Required Qualifications

Valid CVOR Technologist license in Illinois
Minimum 1 year of CVOR Technologist experience within the last year
Surgical Technologist experience
Associate degree in a related field or Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
