Job Opportunity: Surgical Assistant

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied

Job Summary

The Surgical Assistant supports the surgeon during surgical procedures to ensure efficient and safe operations. Responsibilities include assisting with anatomy identification, patient positioning, visualization of the operative site, hemostasis, suturing, wound dressing, and postoperative care. The role requires technical competence and the ability to perform independently in surgery and on-call situations, including harvesting veins, arteries, tendons, bone, and skin.

Key Responsibilities

Positioning patients as directed by the surgeon for optimal surgical exposure
Assisting with visualization using retractors, sponges, suction, irrigation, and tissue manipulation
Managing suture materials and performing subcutaneous and skin closure techniques
Applying appropriate wound dressings and securing drainage systems
Providing expert assistance in major surgical cases under direct surgeon supervision
Staying current with new technologies related to the specialty area

Required Qualifications

Education

Associate's degree in Surgical Assisting

Experience

Minimum 2 years of Surgical First Assistant experience
Surgical First Assistant experience within the last year

Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
