Registered Nurse (RN) – Acute Rehab Unit

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Unit: Acute Rehab Unit (29 beds)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36

Unit Details

• Patient Types: Neurology, Neurosurgery, Amputations, Multi-trauma, Cardiac, Complex medical (tracheostomies, no ventilators)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 5:1
  • Nights: 6:1
• Nurse Aide Ratio: Approximately 1:9 or 1:10
• Rehab Services Available: Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech Therapy (ST)
• Respiratory Equipment: CPAP/BiPAP at night for sleep apnea; nasal cannula including high flow (no heated high flow)
• Drip Management: Only heparin drips; RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Telemetry: Telemetry available but not monitored by RNs; use of telemetry packs only
• Floating: Required to float to LTAC and med-surg units; no floating to the acute rehab unit unless trained
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday rotation
• Call/Standby: None required
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed; no t-shirts unless approved

Orientation & Training

• Orientation:

  • 2 days classroom orientation
  • 2-3 shifts (days or nights) with a preceptor
  • Training includes learning QRP and specific rehab documentation
• Non-billable Orientation Hours: 12 hours

Required Certifications & Skills

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA) required
• Strong neurology skills required
• Required to attend team conferences for acute inpatient rehab

Licensure & Compliance

• Active Illinois RN license required or proof that application process has been initiated
• Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty or pay requirement for the shift missed

This is a 13-week night shift RN position on an acute rehab unit caring for complex neuro and medical patients. The role requires strong neuro skills, BLS certification, and active Illinois RN licensure. Orientation includes classroom and preceptor shifts with a focus on rehab-specific documentation.
