Registered Nurse (LDRP) - Winnemucca, Nevada

Job Overview

• Location: Winnemucca, Nevada (Northern Nevada, mountain town)
• Unit: Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP)
• Facility Type: Critical Access Hospital
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (3 shifts per day), start time between 7:00-7:30 AM, with a 30-minute lunch
• Scheduling: Modified self-schedule; flexibility requested to help fill staffing gaps; weekend every other week; possible holiday rotation
• Orientation: 1 day general orientation plus 1-2 shifts with preceptor on scheduled shift

Unit Details

• Beds: 4 LDRP beds, 2 postpartum beds, 1 exam room convertible to LDRP
• Birth Volume: Approximately 20 births per month, 200 per year
• Staffing: Typically 2 nurses per shift; additional staff called in only for multiple labors or sick babies
• Postpartum and nursery care includes low-risk labor, antepartum testing, postpartum couplets, well nursery, and stabilization of sick babies prior to transfer
• No designated triage area; triage done in all rooms
• C-sections: OR team handles scrubbing, circulating, and recovery; OB nurse receives the baby
• No charge nurse on unit; team approach with charge nurse support available from ER/ICU for transfers
• Nurse aides available rarely for stocking and non-patient care tasks

Patient Care & Responsibilities

• Must be able to work all LDRP roles: labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and sick-baby nursery
• Care for sick babies prior to transport (transfers can take up to 3 hours)
• Comfortable managing low-risk labor and postpartum couplets
• IV drips managed via infusion devices; common drips include Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and antibiotics
• RNs read their own electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) strips and identify major and life-threatening rhythms
• May be asked to float to other departments (Medical-Surgical, ER, Long-Term Care) as a sitter or assisting hands when census is low

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Current RN license in Nevada
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required (Nevada RNs cannot administer Cytotec without Advanced FHM)
• STABLE certification preferred
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of LDRP experience required; must be able to function in labor & delivery, postpartum, and sick-baby nursery
• First-time travel nurses are acceptable

Medical Support & Resources

• OB physician on call with approximately 30-minute response time
• No in-house neonatologist; consults and transfers arranged for high-acuity babies
• Anesthesia available on call with quick response (within 20 minutes)
• Respiratory therapy equipment includes T-pieces for positive pressure ventilation and Vapotherm for high flow oxygen
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring systems: Fetal Link and Cerner Community Works EMR
