Registered Nurse (Medical-Surgical Acute Care)
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Details
- Medical-Surgical Acute Care unit with 18 beds (mostly private rooms, one semi-private)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 5-6:1 on nights
- Two Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) per shift, ratio approximately 9:1 when full
- Patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC, stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or PRN
- Telemetry monitored remotely by a house-wide telemetry department; unit uses primarily Phillips equipment
- Unit clerk with 24-hour coverage
- Hospitalist and Intensivist coverage 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7 (pharmacy prepares all medications)
- Inpatient phlebotomy team available for blood draws
Scheduling & Work Requirements
- 12-hour night shifts (7 PM – 7 AM) with shift report at shift change
- Weekend rotation: work every other weekend (Fri/Sat nights)
- Holiday rotation per policy
- No call or standby requirement
- Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed
- Orientation: one 12-hour shift with a unit preceptor
- Dress code: any color scrubs except pediatric scrubs; staff must provide their own scrubs
Patient Care & Clinical Duties
- Care for general medical patients with various diagnoses
- RNs are required to titrate drips, specifically Heparin
- Expected to attempt IV starts; if unsuccessful, unit resources should be utilized
- Charge RN coverage 24/7; charge nurse may have patient assignments
- House supervisor available 24/7
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Active Illinois RN license required (or confirmation that application process has been initiated)
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS preferred for Charge RN positions
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of hospital experience preferred

- Drug-free campus policy; negative drug screen required for all panels
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility
