Job Details
- Unit Beds: 29
- Patient Ratios:
- Day shift: 5:1
- Night shift: 6:1
- Shift Hours:
- Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday (rotation)
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Yes, float to LTAC and med-surg units; no floating to HAU unless trained
- Orientation:
- 2 days classroom orientation
- 2-3 days/nights with a preceptor
- Includes training on QRP and specific rehab documentation
Patient Care & Skills
- Common Diagnoses: Neuro, Neurosurgery, Amputations, Multi-trauma, Cardiac, Complex medical (tracheostomies, no ventilators)
- Required Skills: Strong neuro skills required
- Drip Management: RNs are not required to titrate drips except for heparin (set rate only)
- Telemetry: Telemetry available but not monitored by RNs; RNs do not read strips
- Team Participation: RNs are required to attend team conferences for acute inpatient rehab
- Nurse Aides: Present with a ratio of approximately 1:9 or 1:10
- Rehab Services on Unit: Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech Therapy (ST)
- Respiratory Equipment: CPAP/BiPAP used at night for sleep apnea; nasal cannula and high flow cannula allowed (no heated high flow)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Rehabilitation experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Strong neuro skills
Additional Information
- Drug-free workplace; negative drug screen required for all panels
- Dress code: Any color scrubs allowed; no t-shirts unless approved
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation)
