Job Opportunity: Sterile Tech
Location: Martinsburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: OR Sterile Tech
- Work setting: Central Processing (Cost Center 615)
- Average cases per day: 28 cases/day with 5 add-ons (including SDS cases)
- Common surgical cases: Neuro spine, total joints, open fractures, general surgery, ENT; no open heart cases; vascular cases starting in August
- Shift types: 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts; primarily day/evening shifts; no self-scheduling for travelers but block scheduling may be allowed if it meets unit needs
- Orientation: 3 shifts floor-specific orientation
- Ratio: 1 Sterile Tech to 1 RN
- EMR system: EPIC
- Call requirements:
- One weekend day on-call (7a-7p) per month
- One weeknight on-call (7p-7a)
- Call response time: 20 minutes (if >20 minutes away, must stay on site)
- Weekend and holiday coverage: No holidays required; weekend on-call required as above
- Scrubs provided for OR Techs and RNs
- Floating: No
- Additional responsibilities: Techs responsible for room turnover (no aids or housekeeping support)
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Sterile Processing Technician (SPT - 615)
- Certification: Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT) via CBSPD required for new candidates effective 2/27/2026
- Experience: 2-3 years of experience in sterile processing specialty required
- Prior travel experience: 2-3 previous travel assignments required
- Preferred experience: Ortho/Neuro experience preferred
- License: Certification through CBSPD or IAHCSMM accepted (CRCST or CSPDT)
- BLS: Not required for Sterile Tech
Additional Information
- Must disclose any background hits at time of submission
- Driver’s license address must be outside 50 miles from the facility
- Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years
- Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after 1 full year of travel at this facility
- Travel teams must be submitted together
- Only 2 candidates submitted per opening; submissions may be held if position is full
Work Environment & Support
- Charge nurse available 7a-7p, may assist with circulating cases
- RT available 24/7 for vented patients in OR and PACU
- Pharmacy available 24/7 with Omnicell system
- Anesthesia interprets telemetry strips; RNs not required to interpret in OR
- No IV team
- No floating required
This position is ideal for experienced sterile processing technicians with prior travel assignments looking for a surgical OR environment with a variety of cases and a supportive team structure.
