Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Adult Medical Specialty Unit (AMSU)

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Adult Medical Specialty Unit (56 beds; private and semi-private)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • 1:4-5 (07:00-23:00)
  • 1:5-6 (23:00-07:30)
• Common patient diagnoses: cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, behavioral health & addictions
• Charge nurse: Free charge RN on each floor (does not take patient assignment)
• Patient care technicians (PCTs) assist with vital signs, accu-checks, bladder scans, and ADLs; ratio 1:8-10
• Respiratory therapy equipment includes BiPAP/CPAP for sleep apnea, inhalers, suctioning
• Telemetry monitored remotely; RNs can view strips on pack or computer (Phillips monitors)

Schedule & Work Requirements

• Shifts: 3 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Scheduling: API electronic schedule with self-scheduling/block scheduling allowed
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun for days; Fri/Sat for nights)
• Holiday requirement: Varies
• Call/standby: None
• Floating: Rotation to other acute care general medical areas (nephrology, neuro, ortho, oncology)
• Orientation: 2-3 shifts on unit-specific orientation
• Dress code: Any color professional scrubs; no visible tattoos or piercings except ears

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that application process has been initiated)
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, chest tubes required
• EPIC electronic medical record experience preferred
• Prior travel experience preferred but not strictly required if candidate has EPIC experience and level I trauma center experience
• No requirement for RNs to titrate drips (common drips: Heparin, Lasix)
• Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels (drug-free campus)

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation)
• OSF Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty or pay required for the shift missed
