Position Details

• Unit Size: 33 beds (average daily census 16)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adult patients
• Shift Times:

  • 06:30 - 18:30 (12-hour day shift)
  • 18:30 - 06:30 (12-hour night shift)
• Scheduling:

  • Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers
  • Block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Minimum of 2 holidays required during contract

Patient Population & Care

• Common diagnoses include trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
• RNs are required to titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
• Respiratory therapy equipment ranges from nasal cannula to ventilators; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage advanced respiratory equipment beyond that
• RNs must read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips (GE monitors) with tele tech oversight

Orientation & Requirements

• Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
• Return to Orientation (RTO) required within 7 days or less of a 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved
• Pass/fail RN exam during orientation (open book, 90% required to pass)
• Must have current certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Driver’s license required to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius
• Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
• Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)

Additional Notes

• Nurse aides and healthcare support techs assist based on census and volume
• Floating assignments typically to PCU or occasionally MedSurg with adjusted patient ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
• Holiday and weekend staffing requirements apply
