ER RN Travel Opportunity - Stockton, California

Position Overview

  • Role: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
  • Location: Stockton, California
  • Facility Type: Busy hospital ER (non-trauma center)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Experience Required: Minimum 3+ full years as an ER nurse
  • Licenses/Certifications Required:
    • Active California RN License
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • EMR System: Cerner (required)
  • No first-time travelers accepted

Work Environment

  • ER Volume: Approximately 270-320 visits per day; busy days up to 350 visits
  • Beds: 62 beds plus hallway beds/chairs
  • Patient Acuity: High volume, high acuity including critical care, CVA, STEMI, sepsis, pediatric zone (0-12 years), ICU admissions from ER
  • Specialty Programs: Primary stroke center, STEMI receiving center, robust sepsis program, cath lab including hybrid suite on site
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Charge Nurse: Present on both shifts; does not take patients unless necessary
  • Support Staff: ER techs (approx. 3 per shift for EKGs, vital signs), respiratory therapists 24/7, pharmacy 24/7
  • Telemetry: Phillips system; nurses must read and interpret telemetry (no telemetry techs)
  • Ventilator Care: Nurses may hold vented patients while awaiting respiratory therapist; RT manages vent settings and equipment
  • Physicians: MDs and midlevels run the unit; midlevels generally manage fast track
  • IV Team: Not applicable
  • Floating: None
  • Orientation: Floor-specific orientation up to 2 shifts

Schedule & Shifts

  • Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
  • Shift Start Times: 7 AM, 9 AM, 11 AM, 3 PM, 7 PM
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holidays: 2 out of 3 major holidays required
  • Scrub Color: Navy blue

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • All required training modules (MyJourney) must be completed prior to arrival; failure to complete will delay start
  • Must submit copies of certifications with application; candidates without certs will not be presented
  • ER is divided into two sections (ER North and ER South) with two charge nurses
  • High presence of paramedic and nursing students, as well as student nurse externs rotating through
  • Triage nurse coverage around the clock with 3 triage nurses during peak times
  • Candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high volume, and high acuity ER environment
