Certified Surgical Technician - Florence, South Carolina (LTA Contract)

Job Overview

  • Work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures.
  • Ensure the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and procedures maximize patient safety.
  • Prepare and maintain sterile instruments, sutures, and equipment necessary for surgical procedures.
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, draping, and establishing the sterile field.
  • Perform instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator.
  • Participate in surgical site and patient verification during time out procedures.
  • Maintain sterile field and ensure patient and employee safety using highest standards of sterile technique.
  • Prepare and pass off specimens as appropriate.
  • Assist in lifting, turning, and positioning patients using proper body mechanics.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, including terminal cleaning of instruments and rooms.
  • Use standard precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment when handling hazardous substances.
  • Demonstrate competency in operating room procedures including emergency management, infection control, communication, and perioperative patient care.

  • 13 weeks

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • NBSTSA certification (only certification recognized in South Carolina for this role)
  • BLS (AHA only)
  • Valid state license/certificate with primary source verification
  • Driver’s License or State ID
  • Social Security Card

Required Health and Immunization Documentation

  • MMR: Proof of 2 immunizations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B: Proof of 3 vaccinations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: Proof of 2 immunizations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): 1st within 1 year, 2nd within 30 days of start; negative Q-Gold or Tspot within 90 days prior to start also acceptable
  • Influenza vaccine (required September-April; medical/religious exemptions considered case-by-case)
  • Fit Test (optional, required for travelers with specific mask make/model within 1 year of start)
  • Drug Screen: 10 panel drug screening completed within 30 days of start (rapid drug screen not accepted)

Background and Verification Requirements

  • Criminal background check covering county, statewide, national search, OIG, EPLS, OFAC, NSOP, SS trace, and education verification (done within 60 days of start, updated annually)
  • Employment verification for the past 5 years
  • Resume or profile submission (references preferred but not required)
  • Skills checklist completed prior to start and updated annually
  • Confirmation of assignment form required
