Location: Carmel, Indiana

Schedule: Full-time, nights (7:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.), every third weekend and holiday rotation
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

As a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse, you will assist mothers through the delivery process, ensuring the safe arrival of healthy babies. This role is vital in providing dedicated patient care in a fast-paced L&D environment.


Required Certifications and Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Must be AHA certified
  • Nursys Verification - Within 30 days prior to start; disciplinary actions require additional documentation
  • License/Certificate Verification - Current license and primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics certification (optional but preferred)
  • NRP Advanced - Must be AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics certified
  • Ascension Pharmacology Exam - Must be completed prior to start and updated every 3 years (minimum 80% score)
  • Ascension Specialty Exam - Completed prior to first assignment and updated every 3 years (minimum 80% or national benchmark)
  • Ascension Color Vision Test - Completed prior to start and updated every 3 years
  • Ascension Core Competencies - HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within a year of start and updated yearly (minimum 80% score)
  • Ascension Fetal Monitoring - Required if fetal monitoring not covered on competency exam; must be completed within past 2 years
  • Ascension Unit Specific Checklist - Optional for onboarding, uploaded by unit leader within a week
  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation - 6-hour pre-hire training attestation required
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding - Completed onsite

Health and Safety Requirements

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
  • Fit Test - Required for all travelers; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite; updated annually
  • Hepatitis B - Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Influenza Vaccine - Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • Positive PPD / Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire - Must provide positive IGRA or PPD results, chest X-ray within a year, and completed TB questionnaire
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) - Required within 30 days prior to start
  • Varicella - Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history; no declinations accepted
  • Tdap - Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
  • Health Statement - Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen - Completed within 30 days prior to start and updated annually; includes testing for 12 specified drugs

Professional and Background Requirements

  • Driver's License/State ID - Must be current and valid; address must match licensing requirements
  • Ascension Profile (Resume) - Required for submission
  • Ascension 2 Professional References - At least two professional references required prior to first assignment
  • Ascension Criminal Background Check - Includes Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender; completed within 30 days prior to first assignment and updated annually
  • Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) - Run within 90 days prior to start and rerun if break in service > 90 days
  • Ascension Skills Checklist - Clinical skills checklist completed within one year of start and updated annually
  • Ascension Education Verification - Verification of relevant education within 90 days prior to start; diplomas not accepted
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment - Provided upon initial assignment and updated with extensions
  • Ascension Employment Verification - Third-party verification for past seven years; updated annually or if break in service > 90 days
