Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Job Description

• Level 1 experience desired
• Minimum 3 years recent experience in Operating Room (OR)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Experience working in various specialty areas including:

  • Total Joints
  • Orthopedic Spine
  • Gynecology (Gyn)
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS)
• Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted
• Call policy:

  • Weekdays: 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Weekends: 7:00 AM Saturday through 7:00 AM Monday
  • 40-minute response time required
  • Rotating call schedule with 2-3 weekday calls in the first 6 weeks, weekend calls in the next 6 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Kentucky
• Minimum 3 years of recent OR experience (highest required years of experience)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only, RQI accepted)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA only, RQI accepted)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification (AHA only, RQI accepted)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for Labor & Delivery
• Chemotherapy certification if applicable
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card (can be completed onsite)
• Certification for First Assist RNs (Certified First Assistant by RFNA) if applicable
• Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for various units including ICU, ER, PACU, Telemetry, etc.
• NIH Stroke Certification if applicable

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 3 years recent OR experience
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Background and Health Requirements

• Background checks including:

  • County and national criminal background
  • Sex offender search
  • Education verification or signed official transcript/diploma
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Health documents required and must be current:

  • Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, or PA
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (N95 or equivalent)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray and TB questionnaire annually
  • Immunity or vaccination for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • Drug testing within 1 year (specific panels required)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption annually
  • COVID vaccination series or approved exemption (booster preferred but not required)

Competency and Skills Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%)
• Color Blind Testing (passing score 80%)
• Unit-specific Competency Exams (annual renewal required)
• Conscious Sedation Competency Exam (annual renewal required)
• RN Math Ability Competency Exam (annual renewal required)
• Skills Checklists (annual renewal required)
• Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing for ICU, ER, PACU, Telemetry, etc.

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references verified within 6 months of start
• Employment application with explanation for any gaps over 30 days
• Employment verification for the past 7 years
• Completion of facility-specific policies and agreements prior to start
