Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (3pm - 3:30am)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
Call Requirements: None
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Floating: Mandatory float within scope as needed by the facility

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in Emergency Department (ED)
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – preferred
• Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Illinois
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Work Environment & Additional Details

• No block scheduling
• Request Time Off (RTO) allowed up to 5 days max, no more than 2 consecutive days
• No RTO allowed on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
• Local candidates preferred; must live within 75 miles of the facility
• Charting system: Cerner
• Scrub color: Navy Blue

Required Health & Compliance Documents

• Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
• Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
• Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, annual renewal required
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
• Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
• Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct-Apr)

Competency & Facility-Specific Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required within 12 months of start)
• Color Blind Testing (required within 12 months of start)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (preferred for ER RNs)
• Completion of facility-specific rules of behavior and forms prior to start

Summary

This is a travel/contract RN position in the Emergency Department requiring at least 2 years of recent acute care ED experience. The role involves mandatory floating, night shifts, and weekend work every other weekend. Candidates must have current Illinois RN licensure and required certifications including BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and preferably PALS. Compliance with extensive health, background, and competency requirements is mandatory. Local candidates within 75 miles are preferred.
