Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Hurricane, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse for a travel contract position. The unit includes 5 beds plus 2 endoscopy beds, with diagnostic services such as electrocardiography, respiratory monitoring, nuclear medicine, radiology, suturing, and splint application.

Schedule

• 3x12 hour night shifts (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Every other weekend required
• 36 hours guaranteed
• Orientation/start dates every other week on Thursday

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Room specialty experience (higher value used: 2 years RN experience)
• Prior travel experience required

Required Certifications & Skills

• Current WV or Compact RN license (pending license accepted to start)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred and required for ER
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Blue Card required, renewal every 2 years
• Fit testing required (annual)
• Skills:

  • Continuous IV sedation
  • Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Triage
  • Care of ventilated patients
• Clinician may be floated within scope to meet facility needs

License & Compliance

• Must have active WV or Compact RN license to start (pending license accepted)
• Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless medically exempt
• COVID-19 vaccination NOT required
• Drug screen within 30 days of start, including a full panel of substances
• Physical exam within 1 year, signed by appropriate healthcare provider, confirming good health and no limitations
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
• Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap
• Annual TB questionnaire for positive TB responders
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history and sex offender search within 30 days of start

Additional Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License and Social Security Card required
• Pass/fail testing for EKG, medication calculation, and blood administration required for nursing candidates
• Annual medication/pharmacology competency exam
• Color blindness testing prior to start
• Completion of facility-specific orientation and inservice training modules (approx. 4 hours) before start
• References: Minimum 1 reference from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within the past year

Facility & Work Environment

• Short-term acute care hospital with 70 staffed beds
• Charting systems: Cerner, Omnicell, Accudose
• Free parking for travelers
• Open to blocked schedule requests but must meet unit needs

Notes

• Permanent employees cannot return as travelers for 2 years after last permanent day worked
• Flu vaccine refusal requires documented medical proof for exemption
• PAPR accommodations available if unable to pass fit testing due to facial hair or face shape
