Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)

Requirements

• Prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma Emergency Department required
• Experience in a teaching hospital preferred
• Certifications required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• Certifications preferred:

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
• Valid RN license for Illinois (no pending licenses accepted)

Compliance & Documentation

• Background Checks:

  • 7-year background check within 30 days, including aliases and multiple databases
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days
  • Education verification required (ADN or BSN minimum)
• Health Documents:

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific mask models required)
  • Immunizations and titers required within 2 business days of contract signing:

    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (if positive TB history)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug testing: 9-panel minimum within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Flu seasonal vaccination/documentation required for 2025-26 season (exemptions require approval)
• Facility Specific Documents:

  • Passport-style photo for badge
  • Covid and Influenza exemption forms (if applicable) must be completed and approved at least one week prior to documentation due date
• History & Verification:

  • 2 professional references required
  • Employment application with last 7 years of work history, including explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist updated annually for assigned and float units
  • Employment verification for 7 years required

Additional Notes

• Fingerprinting required for candidates without Illinois state license; must be completed in Illinois and added to the Illinois Department of Public Health Registry
• Candidates must meet all certification and documentation requirements prior to assignment start
• Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines require facility approval and may take up to one week for review

This position is ideal for RNs with emergency room experience in a high-acuity, urban trauma setting who meet the certification and compliance requirements and are comfortable with a travel/contract assignment.
