Registered Nurse (NICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Hartford, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift Options: Day/night or permanent nights
- Shift Pattern: 3 shifts (12 hours each) consisting of 2 twelve-hour shifts and 2 eight-hour shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or every weekend
- Experience: Minimum 1+ year NICU experience in Level III or higher
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only; RQI and HeartCode Complete acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only; RQI and HeartCode Complete acceptable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only; RQI and HeartCode Complete acceptable; required for ER, OR, PICU, RRT; preferred NICU
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA only; RQI and HeartCode Complete acceptable; required for NICU
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required for ER candidates
- State Nursing License – Current Connecticut RN license required; permanent license preferred, temporary license may be allowed with approval
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Required for psych positions (not specifically noted for this role)
Required Competencies
- Competency Exam with 80% or higher within a year of start
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Tele, Stepdown, ICU, ER)
- Core Part I, II, III – must be updated annually
- OSHA Mandatory training – updated annually
- HIPAA Competency – expires annually
Required Background and Credentialing Documents
- Clear copy of Driver’s License or Passport
- Background Check (7-year search including aliases, nationwide, statewide, sex offender, OFAC) within 30 days of start, expires annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
- HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
- Education Verification (Diploma may be used as placeholder)
- OFAC Sanctions List Search if not included in background check within 30 days of start
- References: Two references within past 2 years who directly supervised the candidate
- Employment Application including 7 years of employment history and explanation of gaps
- Skills Checklist updated within 1 year of start
- Work History Verification for last 7 years
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (chest up, solid background, no others in photo)
- Confidentiality Agreement, Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest, Contractor Checklist – all must be signed prior to start
- Pediatric Medication Calculation Exam required for all RNs
- Flu Vaccine Religious or Medical Exemption forms accepted if applicable
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start, signed by NP, PA, or MD, documenting ability to work full day without restrictions
- Respiratory Fit Mask Test annually (specific acceptable masks listed)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years of start (TD and declinations not accepted)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year, updated annually; additional documentation required for previous positive TB
- TB Questionnaire for past positive TB, updated annually
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or signed declination)
- Varicella
- Drug Testing: 10 Panel within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption required annually by deadline
