Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Licensure: Must have a current North Carolina (NC) or Compact nursing license
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Additional Skills: See job requirements and qualifications (implied clinical competencies)
- Work Schedule:
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Yes
- Orientation: Bi-weekly
- Other Requirements:
- Flu vaccination is mandatory; no exemptions or declinations accepted
- Local candidates within 75 miles are acceptable
- First-time travelers are welcome
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Must be completed within 90 days of start date
- Includes SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, alias searches, nationwide and sex offender checks, international searches if applicable
- Education verification required for certain specialties
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 90 days
- OFAC sanctions list search required within 30 days of start
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination every 10 years
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers required (no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer required
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
- Flu seasonal vaccination required for new candidates starting October through March (no exemptions)
- Polio vaccine or attestation required
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- References:
- Two professional references required from employment within the last 12 months, at least one must be a supervisor
- Employment Application: Required with 7 years of work history
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually
Additional Notes
- Candidates must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
- Competency exams and unit-specific training required during orientation
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation for applicable units
- Candidates must complete all required online modules prior to orientation
- Candidate Background Orientation (CBO) checklists must be completed within 3 weeks after start date
- Drug testing and health documents must be current and valid at start date; extensions may require updated testing
- Floating and weekend work are part of the job expectations
This position is suitable for nurses with at least 1 year of experience, who hold the required certifications and licensure, and are willing to comply with strict health and background screening requirements. Prior travel experience is not required.
