Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Schedule Details

• Unit: 3S Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) / Medical-Surgical Observation
• Beds: 8 IMC Beds / 10 Observation Beds (staffed separately)
• Patient Types: Variety including respiratory issues, DKA, arrhythmias, post-op kidney transplant, interventional neurological, telemetry, renal population
• Shift: Nights (7pm-7am), 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
• Schedule: Weekdays, every other weekend required
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 3:1 for IMCU, 4:1 for Medical/Surgical
• Float: RN may float within scope as needed
• Orientation: Held every other week on Thursday; 2-day orientation (Thursday and Friday)
• Guaranteed Hours: Options for 36 or 48 hours/week

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in West Virginia
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
• Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) experience
• Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Skilled in ventilator management

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Valid Driver’s License
• Social Security Card (or proof of request on file)
• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (updated annually)
• Sex Offender Search (updated annually)
• Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year, signed by appropriate provider, confirming good health and no limitations
• Annual fit mask testing (N95) or accommodation with PAPR if needed
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
• Required immunizations/vaccinations with documentation or approved exemptions:

  • Tdap (no declinations accepted)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titers)
  • Hepatitis B (series or declination with documentation)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titers)
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless approved medical/religious exemption
  • COVID-19 vaccine NOT required (proof or declination accepted)
• Drug screen within 30 days of start, including standard panel (no placeholders or pending results accepted)
• Pass/fail testing for EKG, medication calculation, and blood administration required for nursing candidates
• Annual skills checklist for specialty required
• 1 professional reference from manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within past year

Additional Information

• Flu vaccine refusal without medical proof will disqualify candidate during flu season
• No return to permanent employment at this facility within 2 years if previously employed permanently

Summary

This is a travel contract RN position in a Level 1 Trauma Center teaching hospital, working nights on an Intermediate Care Unit with a focus on telemetry, ventilator management, and complex medical patients. Candidates must have at least 2 years RN experience, ACLS and BLS certifications, and an active WV or Compact RN license. Orientation and compliance requirements are extensive, including immunizations, background checks, and competency testing. Prior travel experience is not required.
