Job Summary
Assist surgeons during various surgical procedures by preparing and maintaining sterile fields, selecting and preparing surgical supplies and equipment, and ensuring quality patient care. This role involves no weekend shifts, working Monday through Friday, with on-call duties 1-2 days per week (4-hour increments, with a 30-minute response time).
Key Responsibilities
Surgical Services
- Assist surgeons in a variety of surgeries and procedures.
- Establish and maintain sterile fields, including sterile tables, tools, and patient draping.
- Prepare necessary supplies and equipment for surgical procedures and ensure they are in working order.
- Complete routine and priority tasks within departmental time frames.
Clerical
- Perform clerical tasks such as retrieving, entering, and revising patient electronic health records.
- Document supply inventory and order new supplies as needed.
Safety
- Maintain a clean, neat, and safe operating room environment before and after procedures.
- Inspect and calibrate equipment, record quality control results, and report malfunctions.
Compliance
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient protected health information (PHI).
- Perform work in compliance with department standards, policies, and regulatory requirements to ensure patient safety.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or military training as a scrub tech.
- Surgical Technician certification (TS-C, CST, or NRST).
- Minimum of 1 year of Surgical Technician experience, including experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Certifications & Licenses
- Surgical Technician Certification (TS-C, CST, or NRST) required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC).
- Additional certifications may be required depending on position specifics.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Surgical Services.
- Minimum of 1 year of Surgical Technician experience, including recent experience within the last year.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
Work Schedule
- Monday through Friday.
- No weekend shifts.
- On-call 1-2 days per week, 4-hour increments, with a 30-minute response time.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start.
- Various federal and state screenings including FACIS Level 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, OFAC Sanctions List, and others as applicable.
- Education verification required.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to California law).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
- Immunizations and titers required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, TB test or chest x-ray, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccination during flu season.
- Various facility-specific documents and attestations must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
Health and Safety
- Must maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Must comply with all infection control and safety protocols.
- Must complete required health screenings and immunizations.
Additional Notes

- Call shifts are typically short and infrequent.
- Candidates must be able to respond within 30 minutes when on call.
