Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical/Telemetry Unit

Work Schedule

• 36-hour workweek option (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
• Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Option for 36 or 48-hour shifts and 13 or 26 week contracts (this posting is for 13 weeks)

Unit Description

• Medical Surgical/Telemetry 6/7 unit: 20-bed general medical surgical and telemetry unit including orthopedic patients
• Patient types include: total knee and hip replacements, complicated orthopedic cases, pulmonary, sepsis, GI, endocrine, cardiac, renal, and psychiatric illnesses
• Unit split by floors:

  • 7th floor: Medical/Surgical patients with underlying behavioral health conditions (e.g., detox, dementia), secured floor
• Float requirements: Travelers are first to float frequently to meet staffing needs, including potential float to other units and Bellevue campus
• Care team includes CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics; LPNs assigned on some floors

Patient Ratios

• Day shift: 1 nurse to 5 patients
• Night shift: 1 nurse to 6 patients (rarely 1:7)

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Nebraska
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Requirements

• Must be nicotine-free (100% nicotine-free facility)
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s)
• Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
• Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
• Scrubs mandatory: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
• Parking permit available (approx. $55/month) or daily parking rates

Background and Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background check within 30 days of start, including multiple county and federal checks
• Ongoing monthly SAM and OIG checks required
• Education verification required
• State-specific abuse/neglect registry checks required
• Primary source license verification required prior to start
• Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually
• Physical exam and fit mask test required within 1 year and updated annually
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap within last 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if positive history
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters if needed)
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if needed)
  • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
  • COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
• Annual skills checklist required
• References: 2 work references from past 2 years (1 if not a current traveler)

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with medical-surgical and telemetry patients, including those with behavioral health needs, who are flexible to float and meet holiday and weekend requirements.
