Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (ED)

Location: Dededo, Guam
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Position in the Emergency Department (ED) requiring 5 years of RN experience.
  • Shift: Primarily one shift (day or night) assigned; no shift preference allowed.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, flexible to support facility needs.
  • Holidays: Working on holidays is required; specific dates determined by unit needs.
  • Return to Office (RTO): Limited to no more than 3 consecutive days and a maximum of 7 days total during the 13-week contract.
  • Locals residing in Guam are not eligible for this position.
  • Travelers must have a current Compact or Guam RN license at time of application; pending licenses are not accepted.
  • Passport: Current U.S. passport required (Canadian passports not accepted).
  • Flights are not reimbursed; candidates should budget for round-trip airfare.
  • Travelers should be prepared to pick up additional shifts as needed due to census fluctuations.
  • Contracted hours guaranteed, but client may cancel up to 3 shifts during the assignment.
  • Parking is free; travelers must register their vehicles with HR for a decal.

Required Qualifications

  • RN License: Valid Compact or Guam RN license in hand before start.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of RN experience, preferably with Emergency Department exposure.
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association provider card, digital certificate required)
    • BLS (American Heart Association provider card, digital certificate required)
    • PALS (American Heart Association provider card, digital certificate required)
    • Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Advanced level, digital certificate required, must be fully completed before start.
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification – required for RNs, must be current.
    • Conscious Sedation Certification – required for ER; initial certification valid for 2 years, renewal every 1.5 years.
    • Emergency Severity Index (ESI) Triage Training – required for ER prior to start.
    • Pressure Injury Training (NPIAP/NDNQI) – required prior to start.
    • Alaris IV Pumps Certification – required for RNs.
    • Pyxis CareFusion Certification – required for RNs; must complete combined Profile and Non-Profile Modes training.
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Drug calculations and Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) exams administered onsite during orientation; 80% passing score required with two attempts allowed.
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (facility does not require but Aya recommends).
  • Fit mask test within 1 year prior to start; must use approved masks or bring own PAPR if applicable.
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if past positive, negative chest X-ray within 5 years plus annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella (Chickenpox)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination with medical exemption)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical exemption required during flu season (September 1 – June 30).
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly preferred; declination requires facility-specific waiver form.
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable.

Background and Documentation

  • Background check within 1 year of start, including 7-year criminal search and nationwide sex offender registry. International background checks required if candidate has lived/worked outside the U.S.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks must be done annually.
  • Government-issued photo ID and emergency contact form required prior to start.
  • Work history verification for the last 10 years required; attestations accepted if verification is not possible.
  • Two professional references required within 3 years of start for travel or acute care roles.

Additional Information

  • Candidates should plan to arrive in Guam by Thursday before the start date due to long travel times and time zone differences.
  • Charting system used: Allscripts/Sunrise.
  • Scrub color: Navy blue preferred; any solid color acceptable; mixing colors allowed; any color jacket allowed.
  • Cath Lab, OR, and PACU scrubs provided.
  • Overtime is at management discretion and not guaranteed.
  • Block scheduling accommodation is determined by unit needs.

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department RNs who are flexible, able to work required weekends and holidays, and prepared for travel to Guam with all required documentation and certifications in hand.
