Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Primarily caring for admitted patients in the Emergency Department (ED), with 60%-80% of patients admitted.
- ED includes "ED Holding" rooms and Level 1 Trauma cases.
- Shifts: 36 or 48 hours per week, typically night shifts (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM).
- Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:5.
- Floating: Expected to float to Adult Progressive Care Units (PCUs); optional floating to Pediatric ED, ED Holding, and Trauma Department of Emergency (DOE).
- Weekend work required as needed (weekend days = Sat/Sun; weekend nights = Fri, Sat, Sun).
- No local hires within 100 miles allowed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with ED experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current certifications:
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or PPD) or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Annual TB Questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles) – 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer.
- Mumps – 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer.
- Rubella – 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer.
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer; history of disease not accepted.
- Hepatitis B – series, titer, or declination accepted.
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted for personal reasons.
- COVID vaccine is optional; facility reports vaccination status.
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, national criminal history, sex offender, federal criminal record, education verification, and county searches. Instant searches not accepted.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start.
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation for NM Department of Health clearance; valid if done within past 12 months.
- Social Security card and valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted).
- Employment application with at least 3 years of work history verification required.
- Two professional references within 3 years of hire required.
Work Conditions & Policies
- No on-call requirement.
- No block scheduling accommodations.
- Facility allows calling off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment.
- Overtime applies after 48 hours worked per week (effective 10/30/2025).
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks.
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative work, whichever comes first.
- Parking is free.
- Charting is done in Cerner.
- Scrub color: Black (not provided).
- Location is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation.
Additional Notes
- Medication administration includes IV medications following the seven medication rights.
- Increased number of admit holds currently seen in the ED.
- Candidates must complete a traveler compliance form and review facility-specific orientation materials prior to start.
- Fit mask testing required within 1 year of start; only specific N95 masks accepted. PAPR accommodations available if needed.
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required for multiple units including Adult and Pediatric ED, PACU, ICU, PCU, and others.
- Work experience checklist and confidentiality statement are not required due to crisis credentialing policies.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level I Trauma, Children's, Teaching, Short-term Acute Care hospital with a staffed bed count of 554.
