Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a well-rounded Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse with strong Oncology Surgery and general surgery experience. The role primarily involves day shifts with possible night shift rotations and requires flexibility to float outside the specialty area.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide perioperative nursing care in the Operating Room.
  • Participate in weeknight call (1-2 nights per week on average) and weekend call approximately every 4-5 weeks (24-hour shift on Saturday or Sunday).
  • Work a 4x10 hour day shift schedule (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM), with occasional off-shift rotations (1-3 shifts per 4-week period).
  • Support a variety of complex surgical cases including but not limited to:
    • Whipple procedure
    • Esophagectomy
    • Exploratory laparotomy
    • Bowel resection
    • Thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy
    • Laparoscopic adrenalectomy
    • Neck dissection
    • Breast surgeries (reduction, reconstruction stages 1 & 2, mastectomy, lumpectomy)
    • Free flaps
    • Sentinel lymph node biopsy
    • Melanoma excisions

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Nebraska
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification
  • NRP certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Surgical Oncology experience
  • Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
  • Driver's License

Orientation & Training

  • Bi-weekly orientation provided.
  • Facility provides scrubs for OR/Surgical Tech staff.

Work Environment & Additional Details

  • No block scheduling available.
  • Call-back pay applies only if called back after leaving the facility post-shift. Extended shifts due to census or case overruns are paid at regular/overtime rates without clocking out.
  • Parking permits available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • Background check within 30 days of start, updated annually (includes multi-county, statewide, nationwide, sex offender, federal checks).
  • SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter.
  • Education verification required.
  • State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required within 30 days of start.
  • Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required prior to start.
  • Certifications as applicable:
    • BLS (required)
    • ACLS, PALS, NRP as applicable per unit description
  • Health documents required and must be current:
    • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
    • Fit mask test (annual)
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with TB questionnaire if history positive (annual)
    • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low/equivocal titers)
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low/equivocal titers)
    • Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually (urine panel including multiple substances)
    • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
    • COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
    • Baseline eye exam (Snellen) required within 30 days of start for OR staff only
  • References: 2 work references from past 2 years required (1 must be most recent employer if not a current traveler).
  • Annual skills checklist required.
  • Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.

Additional Notes

  • This is a 100% nicotine-free facility.
  • Locals (within 100 miles) are not eligible for this travel contract.
  • Candidates must provide interview availability for the next 3-4 days when subbing.
