Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour Days
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
• Float Requirement: May float to the medical unit
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Every other weekend and every other holiday
• Patient Population: Neuro and Neuro-Surgical patients (e.g., CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, cerebral angiogram), general medical patients
• Unit Info: 22-bed Neuro unit, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:4, charge nurse has patient assignment
• Charting System: Recent EPIC experience required

Required Qualifications

• Current active Illinois RN license
• Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of strong Medical Surgical / Telemetry experience
• Neuro experience required
• Prior travel experience required: Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Comfortable managing medical overflow patients
• Skills including NIHSS/dysphagia screen, neuro assessments, basic telemetry interpretation, strict I’s & O’s, straight catheterization/Foley care, initiating/titrating heparin drips, blood/blood product administration, venipuncture/blood cultures, NG tube management, indwelling drain management, and stable drips (e.g., Protonix, Lasix)
