Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Newburgh, Indiana

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour Days (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
• Guaranteed hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
• Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• Weekend Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks
• Holiday Requirement: Work every other holiday
• Float Requirement: First to float within skillset; may float between nearby campuses (8-11 miles apart) with 2-hour notice
• On Call/Call Back: Not required
• Patient Population: Medical and surgical patients (no heavy cardiac cases) including confusion/behavioral health/CIWA, CHF, COPD, UTI, cellulitis, sepsis, amputations, decubitus ulcers, general surgeries
• Unit Size: 32 beds (increasing to 37 in January 2025)
• Unit Environment: New leadership, strong teamwork, experienced charge nurses
• Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires
• Scrub Color: Navy blue; no competing health system or agency logos allowed
• Attendance Policy: Three call-ins may result in termination
• COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change)

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• One completed travel nursing assignment
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience managing heparin infusions
• Proficient in wound care, including wound vac management
• Trauma nursing experience
• Recent experience with Epic electronic health record system

Skills and Competencies

• IV fluid and antibiotic therapies
• Strong medical and post-surgical patient assessment
• Heparin drips management
• Wound care including wound vacs
• Basic telemetry skills

Additional Information

• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered
• Orientation: Bi-weekly, starting August 10
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week; guaranteed set hours except when unit is closed for holidays
