Registered Nurse - Same Day Surgery / Pre-Op

Location: Minot, North Dakota
Employment Type: Long Term
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: AM (4 shifts of 10 hours each) with on-call responsibilities (must respond within 30 minutes)

Job Summary

Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care for patients undergoing outpatient surgical and procedural services. Support safe surgical preparation through assessments, patient education, medication administration, and coordination with anesthesia and surgical teams. Monitor patient recovery, manage pain and comfort, and evaluate readiness for discharge following clinical standards. Work collaboratively in a fast-paced perioperative environment to promote high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered surgical care.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform focused pre-operative assessments and review patient histories to prepare patients for surgery in alignment with anesthesia and surgical requirements.
• Monitor patients during post-anesthesia and recovery phases, assessing airway, vital signs, pain, nausea, and overall stability.
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as ordered; document all care accurately in the electronic health record.
• Educate patients and families on surgical preparation, post-procedure expectations, pain management, and discharge instructions.
• Coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and perioperative support teams to ensure efficient patient flow and adherence to safety and infection prevention protocols.
• Participate in quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives to enhance same-day surgical services.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Dakota
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, including recent OR experience within the last year
• Experience in Pre-Op and Day Surgery nursing care
• Experience with Cerner electronic health record system
