Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced (Contract)
Contract Length: Approximately 13 weeks (89 days ≈ 13 weeks)


Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to patients in the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU), applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
  • Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members.
  • Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

  • Role model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
  • Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
  • Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

  • Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
  • Implement process improvement and evidence-based strategies.
  • Participate in peer and institutional reviews.
  • Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
  • Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
  • Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
  • Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.

Operations

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate with leadership to ensure adequate supplies and inventory.
  • Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
  • Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource management.
  • Document thoroughly in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
  • Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Qualifications

  • Current New York State RN License
  • BLS Certification
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience, including 2 years in Post Open Heart and Cardiac Care Unit
  • EPIC experience highly preferred
  • Travel experience of 1 year preferred for travel positions (not required for per diem)

Work Environment

  • Unit census averages 17 patients
  • 26 beds in the unit
  • Staffing ratio approximately 1:2
  • 12-hour shifts with weekend requirements
