Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Assignment
Location: Shelby, Montana

Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide comprehensive nursing care including:
- Executing Licensed Independent Provider’s orders
- Dispensing and administering medications
- Assisting providers in examinations and treatment of patients (inmate/resident population)
- Applying nursing and supervisory techniques in care, treatment, and referrals
- Performing technical/clinical procedures within licensure scope
- Attending sick calls with physicians and preparing inmates/residents for examination
- Operating pill call, dispensing medication, and documenting per policy
- Examining and assessing new or ill/injured inmates/residents and referring as needed
- Performing emergency procedures and notifying providers for treatment orders
- Coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate
- Supervise and guide licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff
- Maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies
- Use sound independent judgment while adhering to corporate, facility, and correctional policies
- Evaluate medical service provision to prevent inappropriate use or duplication
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all medical records
- Assist with medical file reviews to ensure documentation of services
- Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely
- Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with pharmacy laws, especially controlled substances
- Observe and record inmate/resident behavior
- Inspect medical unit for contraband and securely store or dispose of supplies and equipment
- Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups
- Assist in preparing and maintaining various medical and operational records and reports
- Interpret medical, technical, regulatory, and legal documents
- Respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings as necessary
- Facilitate accreditation processes (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) by providing efficient and appropriate medical services
- Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports; take action in serious incidents and emergencies
Contract Length
- 12 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Montana
- Valid driver's license
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of professional nursing experience required
