Job Summary
This role is within a Clinical Resource Unit (Float Pool) providing specialized nursing care across multiple inpatient units including Medical-Oncology, Surgical-Orthopedic, Cardiovascular Care, Progressive Care, Mental Health, and Acute Rehab. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, caring for patients with a variety of medical diagnoses such as coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, strokes, cancer, post-surgical care, and more.
Key Responsibilities
- Float to various inpatient units and provide direct nursing care to diverse patient populations.
- Perform initial patient assessments and develop, implement, and modify individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and evaluate their effects.
- Prepare patients for procedures and provide post-operative care.
- Perform IV venipuncture and blood administration.
- Document all nursing care accurately using electronic medical records (EMR).
- Educate patients and families on care plans and discharge instructions.
- Delegate patient care tasks to healthcare team members and validate task completion.
- Maintain patient safety by adhering to fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and ambulation safety.
- Participate in team huddles and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members.
- Manage conflict professionally and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Prioritize patient safety and respond promptly to patient needs and call lights.
- Conduct bedside shift reports and maintain updated patient communication boards.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 1 year of float experience, including float experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Ability to manage care for acute and chronically ill cardiac and pulmonary patients.
- Skill in preparing patients for procedures and managing post-operative care.
- Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
- Experience in Mental Health nursing.
Experience
- Required specialty experience: At least 2 years of nursing experience (interpreted from contract length and job complexity).
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
