Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour day/night shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and holiday required

Unit Overview

• Post Surgical Care Unit (PSCU) with 40 inpatient beds
• Care for pre- and post-surgical adult and geriatric patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • Day/PM shifts: 1:4 or 1:5
  • Night shifts: 1:5 to 1:7
• Fast-paced unit averaging 10-15 admissions per day (peak during day/PM shifts)
• Unit occupancy typically 90-95% during the week
• Average length of stay: 2–3 days (except joint patients)
• Requires ability to multitask, prioritize acuity-based care, and work collaboratively as a team

Required Qualifications

• Wisconsin RN License
• BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• Minimum 2+ years of recent hospital experience in Medical-Surgical nursing
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Epic EMR charting experience required

Additional Information

• Must be located outside a 50-mile radius of the facility at time of contract start
• Float to all inpatient units may be required
• Eligible for up to 36 hours of low census unbillable hours per week, typically in 4-hour increments (not considered on-call)
• Equipment used includes Epic EMR, Rovers for medication scanning, and Alaris pumps
• Scrub color is flexible (any color allowed)
• During flu season, travelers who decline flu and COVID vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action
• Orientation week hours are not guaranteed; guaranteed hours apply after orientation except during holidays when the unit is closed
