Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years ICU nursing experience
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active California RN License
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- EKG dysrhythmia course (advanced)
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required
Work Environment & Unit Details
- Unit: ICU/CCU (Critical Care Unit)
- Bed count: 12 beds in ICU or CCU
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 or 1:2
- EMR system: Meditech
- Charge Nurse role available (no patient assignment)
- No nurse aides
- RT (Respiratory Therapist) available 24/7
- Pharmacy available 24/7
- No hospitalist or intensivist in-house; independent physicians
- IV Team not available
- Ventilator patients present
- Common patient diagnoses: sepsis, CHF, COPD, ventilated patients
- CCU patients include balloon pumps, post cath, open heart, lobectomies, thrombectomies (travelers cannot care for open heart or balloon pump patients)
- Drips used: Cardizem, Diprivan, Amiodarone, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Fentanyl, Versed
Schedule & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday coverage coordinated with permanent staff
- Night shifts every other week
- Floating required between ICU, CCU, and telemetry units (1:4 ratio)
- Optional floating to ER with training provided
Orientation
- 2-3 shifts unit-specific orientation
- Optional 1 shift telemetry orientation
- Optional 3 shifts ER orientation if floating to ER
Additional Requirements
- COVID-19 vaccination required
- Scrub color: Navy
