Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical

Location: Meridian, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Details

  • Department: Medical Surgical (MedSurg) - 6th Floor
  • Number of Beds: 42
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5, occasionally 1:6
  • Patient Types: Primarily medical patients with some surgical overflow; includes respiratory, GI, behavioral health patients (post-ER stay for discharge planning)
  • Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP (managed by RT), high flow oxygen
  • Telemetry: RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips (currently SpaceLab, transitioning to Philips)
  • Support Staff: Nurse aides/patient care techs (1:8 ratio), virtual telemetry techs, charge nurse on each shift, ADT nurse on day shift for admissions/discharges

Schedule & Orientation

  • Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: 5 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
  • Holiday Requirement: Yes, as needed
  • Floating: May float between MedSurg 5, MedSurg 6, a 9-bed overflow unit, and similar units within the system (including nearby facilities ~8 miles away). May also float to ER for patient holds or 1:1 assignments.
  • Orientation: 3 days general orientation including EPIC training and educator meeting, plus 2 shifts on unit with a preceptor. Online modules required before start.
  • Dress Code: Any clean, professional scrub color

Required Qualifications

  • License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience (highest required)
  • Skills:
    • EPIC electronic health record experience required
    • Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
    • Willingness to take students and precept new travelers
  • Certifications: BLS certification required
  • Drip Management: RNs are not required to titrate drips, but common drips include heparin, PCAs, and morphine

  • No call or standby requirements
  • Scheduler manages traveler shifts; no block scheduling
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
  • Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates’ permanent address
