Med Tele RN - Iron Mountain, Michigan

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Department: Med Tele RN
• Beds: 24 inpatient, plus up to 10 observation/day surgeries
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 5:1
  • Night shift (11pm): 6:1
  • Team nursing with LPNs: 2 LPNs to 7 patients
• Common Diagnoses:

  • Nursing home patients (NHP)
  • Cellulitis
  • UTI
  • COPD
  • GU issues
  • Pacemaker patients
  • Sepsis
  • Nursing home placements
  • Day surgeries including ortho (hips and knees), cholecystectomy, appendectomy, TURPS-CBI
  • Small pediatric population (3/year), not typically assigned to travelers unless prior experience or no other options

Experience & Skills Required

• Minimum 1 year experience in Med/Surg or Med Tele acute care
• Preferred experience/knowledge of TURPS-CBI
• Preferred experience in Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 settings
• Must be comfortable with IV starts (no IV team onsite)
• Respiratory Therapist oversees entire hospital
• RNs are not required to titrate drips

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse: Yes, with assignment; travelers may be placed as relief charge
• Nurse Aides: Yes
• Hospitalist or Intensivist: In-house until 6pm daily, telemedicine after hours
• Respiratory Therapist: Available 24/7 in ICU
• RT Equipment: CPAP available
• Tele/Monitor Techs: Monitoring done in ICU daily; RNs need basic tele arrhythmia knowledge; physical monitor at nurse’s desk

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00am-7:00pm & 7:00pm-7:00am)
• Scheduling: No guaranteed block shifts, but longer blocks of 6 shifts possible; self-scheduling accommodated when able
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday Requirement: 2 out of 3 holidays required
• Call/Standby: Potential opportunity to be placed on call/standby
• Floating: Must be able to float to like units and patients

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation:

  • Day 1: 8 hours computer education + 4 hours shadowing
  • Day 2: 12-hour shift orientation
  • Day 3: Independent
• Dress Code: Solid professional attire, no specific color required

Additional Notes

• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Clinicians who have previously worked for this system must have a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
