Job Opportunity: DMCC - LTAC Med Surg Nurse
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Position Details
- Specialty: DMCC - LTAC Med Surg
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Unit: MedSurg
- Number of Beds: 10
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and to fill holes
- Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation and to fill holes
- Call/Standby: Not currently required but subject to change
Patient Population & Care
- Common diagnoses: Respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
- Skills required: PEG tube care/feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline usage and care, tracheostomy patients
- RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Heparin)
- Respiratory therapy equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow) managed by RT; RNs troubleshoot
- Telemetry monitored by techs in ICU; RNs do not read their own strips
Staffing & Ratios
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:5
- Nurse aides/patient care techs ratio: 1:10
- House Supervisor available 24/7 (no charge nurse assignment)
Certifications & Experience
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA) required; ACLS preferred but not required
- Experience: Must have skills in PEG tube care, CVC/PICC/Midline care, tracheostomy care
- Prior travel experience: Not specified as required
Orientation & Training
- Orientation: 12 non-billable hours classroom orientation plus 2 shifts on unit with preceptor
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
- Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required
- Qualified Med Surg nurses may float to ICU and Acute Rehab occasionally
- Dress code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed in any color
This position is suitable for experienced Med Surg nurses comfortable with complex patient care and titrating drips in a LTAC setting.
